Food & DrinkComplete Guide to Whiskey

What Are the Different Brands of Whiskey?

Transcript

As far as brands of whiskeys go, you have a wide variety, depending on your price point, your level of connoisseurship. Everything from dirt cheap, you know, just brown liquor, all the way up through, you know, very expensive scotches, blends and single malts.

A lot of people, you know, they have their favorite brands, they have their call drinks when they go to a bar. Some people just order the whiskey ginger and that’s, you know, golden. But some people are definitely looking, you know, for the Lagavulin 16 or the Laphroaig Quarter Cask, which is unbelievable delightful. How much you want to pay or how into whiskey you are, you can cover a wide variety. I’m very fond of having a back bar like this one where I can walk you through anything from, you know, a $9 nip through a $90 dram. There’s a lot to take in but it’s not really something to be afraid of. I look it as an opportunity to learn more, you know. The same way there are thousands of wineries in Italy, you know, there are hundreds and hundreds of distilleries, the world around.

It doesn’t matter if you’re drinking Jack Daniels and ginger ale or if you’re going all the way up through, you know, very fine labels of Scotch, you have a wide variety of spirits based on what’s actually going into the fermenter. Whether it’s something that has a high wheat content, like Maker’s Mark, something that drinks soft and easy, or something that’s, you know, a little more aggressive, like Knob Creek with you high rye contents, it’s brighter and spicier.

Everyone has their own personal choice and it could depend on the day, it could depend on the weather, it can depend on, you know, how your day went at work and how much you got left in your pocket.
