Instructions
- Step 1: Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack Allow freshly baked cookies to cool to room temperature on a wire rack.
- Step 2: Fill pastry bag with icing Insert a number two or number four sized pastry tip into the pastry bag and fill it with icing.
- TIP: Squeeze a pastry bag from the end of the bag, not the center, to keep the heat of your hands from melting the icing.
- Step 3: Trace the edge of the cookie Carefully trace a circle around the edge of the top of the cookie.
- Step 4: Pipe vertical lines in the inside of the cookie top Pipe vertical lines on the top of the cookie within the circle you’ve drawn.
- Step 5: Smooth the top with a butter knife or spatula Use a butter knife or small spatula to smooth the top of the cookie.
- TIP: Let the first layer of icing dry before adding monograms or another layer of frosting.
- Step 6: Add additional decorations Add decorations, such as colored sugar, sprinkles, small candies, or chopped nuts. Wait for the icing to set, and then dig into your cute and tasty treats.
- FACT: In 2005, the U.S. Postal Service issued special holiday stamps featuring pictures of assorted cookies shaped like snowmen, elves, angels, and Santa Claus.
