Hello. My name is Angela Cuervo, and I am a pastry chef. I grew up in my parents’ restaurant, where I found my passion for baking. After seeing my mother bake almost every day, I decided to go to culinary school where I learned the bulk of what I know now. And then I later worked with some cake designers, where I learned more of what you see here. And then after that I decided to start my own company called “Making That Cake,” where I now make custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, anything you can think of. And if you want to see more of my work, you can go on my website, which is makingthatcake.com. Or if you want to stop by and see me, you can come to my restaurant, called Mario’s Restaurant in Sunnyside New York. And I hope in these videos that you’ve seen, you’ve learned something to really bring out a simple cake for a special occasion.

Now I’m gonna show you a little bit more about the tools that I’ve used in the videos.

So this tool I mostly use to cut like little, maybe feet in some of the animals. I’ll use it even to cut shapes out of the fondant that I’ve rolled. And then this balling tool, I’ll use to make dents for the eyes and then that’s when I’ll add the pearls for them. And then you can use this tool, the other side, the bigger ball, just to maybe flatten out some of your edges.

And then I’ll use this tool, which has two points. One is a bit thinner, one is a bit thicker. So I’ll also use this tool to make the smiley face or just make some little marks into some of the animals instead of just, you know, using my flat edge tool.

And then I’ll use another balling tool, which I can also use to make the dents or I’ll use it for the ears. Just to give it a little bit of a longer look to the ear. So I’ll use that for that. And then this tool I would have used to make the ruffles in our ruffle cake. And this tool is pretty much what you’ll just use anytime you want to make a ruffle.

And then I’ll use a tweezers, of course, clean tweezers that I’ll but in a pharmacy store, and I’ll use it just to pinch the tops of your dinosaur or your alligator. So I’ll just go into my fondant and pinch it and pick it up, like that.

And then our glue, which is our water, I’ll use that to attach our eyes or, you now, our little dots or anything else that you need to glue to your fondant. That’s your friend, is the water .

And to buy the fondant you can just get premade. Or you can make your own which is a little bit harder. But if you’d like a challenge you can do that. You can buy your white fondant at any cake supply store or any craft store. You can also buy them in different colors. Buy them in dark reds or greens or yellows or blues. And then if you want to make brown you can just buy your food coloring in a brown color and just add it to your white. And you can also do that if you want to make a lighter pink or a baby blue or a lighter color yellow.

So you don’t need most of these tools that you see at my table. Just pretty much the basic ones are easy to use and you can find that in any craft store or cake supply store.

Now I’m going to show you how to make a cut little sheep. I’m going to take some white fondant. Put it in some cornstarch so it’s not too sticky. I’m going to roll it into a ball, and this is going to be his body. Just roll it in a ball, and then take it. Flatten it out just a little bit. And then I’m going to take a piping tip that has a little circle at the top, and I’m just going to make his little body with some texture. Just go all around his body like that. And then I’m going to set his body aside. Now what I’m going to do is take some black fondant, which you can buy in the store. I probably wouldn’t make it, because it would take forever. And then I’m just going to take it, and I’m going to roll it into a ball for his head. And then what I’m going to do is make his little mouth.

And I’m just going to take the end and just pinch it a little bit so his head comes our a little more. He has a little bit of a wider mouth like that. And then I’m going to take a tool with a nice tip at the end, and I’m going to make his little nose. And then I’m going to take another small ball tool, and I’m going to make some dents if for his eyes. And now I’m going to pull out at the side for his ears and just flatten them. Do the same thing to other side, and just flatten it. And then I’m going to put him to the side. I’m going to take his body back and then take some more black fondant, and I’m going to make his little feet. So we’re just going take that. We’re going to take a little piece. Make little ball size feet.

We’re going to make four of them. And then with our water, which is our glue, we’re going to put it at each corner of his body. And then I’m going to take it and place it on there and flatten it out a little bit and do that to each side of his body like that. Then I’m going to take his head back, and we’re going to attach his eyes, which we’re going to use little white pearls for his eyes. And just put some water in the dents we made previously and add the pearls to his face. And then what we’re going to do is we’re going to put some water at the top, and we’re going to attach his head. And you’re going to want to let that dry overnight so that when you go to decorate your cake he’ll be nice and upright and ready for you to decorate. And this is how you make a sheep.

Now I’m gonna show you how to make a cute little pig.

I’m gonna take some pink fondant, which you can find premade or you can make it yourself with some pink food coloring. I’m going to roll it into a ball, almost golf ball size. Maybe a little bit smaller and place it on my mat. And make it a little bit more oval size.

Now I’m gonna take more pink fondant and I’m gonna make his head. Put that in some cornstarch just so it’s not too sticky, easy to handle. Gonna roll it into a ball and then just place it down. And now I’m going to pinch the top of his head to make little ears. Just pinch, bring it out a little bit so he has his little ears. And then what I’m going to do is take another little piece of some pink fondant. I’m going to roll that into a ball and then I’m gonna flatten it just a little bit. And then I’m going to take that piece and I’m gonna make his little oink-oink nose.

So we’re gonna take it, we’re gonna put some water and I’m gonna place it on his face. I’m gonna take a pointed tool and just make his little nostrils. And then we’re going to place that aside. Gonna take his body again, make his little feet. And they’re just, take a little piece of pink fondant. Roll them into little balls. Take some more. And just roll them into some balls. And then you’re going to use your water as your glue and attach his feet at the four corners.

I’m gonna take and then just flatten it a little bit. And do that to each side, just flatten it a little bit. And these cute little piggy feet. And then we’re gonna take a cutting tool and then just make little lines into his feet to each foot.

And then we’re gonna take his head back and take some water, attach it at the top and then place his head there.

And that’s how you make a cute little pig for your little farm animal cake.

Now I’m going to show you how to make a cow for, maybe, your farm animal cake.

Gonna take some white fondant. Gonna roll it in some cornstarch so it’s not sticky. And I’m gonna start with his body. Golf ball size. I’m gonna take it, roll it. And gonna do like sort of like an oval shape body. And then I’m going to pinch four corners so we can make his little legs. Do that in each four corners and. I guess that this is good for a farm animal cake or maybe a first birthday or any other age would be good.

So now, after I’ve pinched his four legs out, just going to flatten it a little bit. And now I’m gonna set him to the side. I’m gonna start with his head. I’m going to take a piece of fondant, just roll it into a ball. Roll it into some cornstarch. I’m going to flatten it out just a little bit, like so. And then I’m going to take the top of his head and pinch out some little cow ears. Just pinch it a little bit, not too much. Like so. And then what I’m going to do is just take him and set him aside with his body.

I’m gonna take some pink fondant and I’m going to make his little mouth. So just going to take a little, little size piece of fondant. Roll it some cornstarch so it’s not too sticky. I’m gonna make it a little bit of an oval shape. And when I get the size that I want, just going to flatten it out so it’s nice and rounded at the edges. Then with our water, which is our glue, I’m going to place it on his face.

And then with our little tip tool that has a nice little tip at the end, I’m going to make little spots for his nose. And now with the same tool I’m going to make dents for his eyes. And I’m going to take him and just leave him to the side again. Let him just set up a little bit more and dry.

Now I’m gonna take his body back and with some more of our pink fondant, I’m gonna make his little legs little pink. And just taking little pieces of our pink fondant I’m going to roll them into little balls. Almost the size of a little sugared pearl. And then I’m going to flatten them a little bit. And I’m gonna make two more for his back legs. I’m gonna do the same thing, just flatten them a little bit. And that’ll be for his little legs.

And now with our water, which is our glue, gonna put a little bit on his legs and then I’m gonna attach the little pink circles we’ve just made and put them on each corner of his legs. And now what I’m going to do is take a marker, which is a black one, and we’re gonna make his spots, because he’s a cow and he has spots. And this can make big spots or little spots. And this can be a fun way to have kids join you in the process of making your little cow.

So after I’ve done those spots I’m gonna take his head and I’m gonna make some spots on his head also, just so he matches his body. And then with the same marker I’m going to make his eyes and make some more little spots. Like so.

And now what I’m going to do is take his head and his body and attach them with some glue. Just put it at the top of his body and attach. And you’re gonna want to let that dry overnight so that when you wake up in the morning you can put him on your birthday cake or any other cake you would like.

And that’s how you make a cow.

So now I’m going to show you how to make a goldfish. We’re going to take our pre-made orange fondant. Take a little less than a golf ball size. Roll it in some of our corn starch so that it’s not too sticky. And I’m going to roll it into a ball so it’s nice and smooth. Then I’m going to take the ball and I’m going to roll the ends into a tip which will be for his fins.

Now what I’m going to do is at the tip I’m going to pinch some of that fondant to make a nice V shape and then I’m going to pinch the other end for another V shape, which is his fin. Then what I’m going to do is the same thing at the top. Then I’m going to do the same thing at the sides. Then I’m just going to push them back.

You can use your corn starch if your hands get sticky just so that you don’t stick to your fondant animal. Then I’m going to take a tool that has a nice tip and I’m going to make his smile. Then I’m going to take a small ball tool for his eyes. Now for his eyes I’m going to use white pearls. You can find these white pearls at a craft store or a cake supply store. And we’re just going to use our water as our glue into the dents that we just made, and I’m going to add the pearls as his eyes. Then I’m going to take an edible food marker which is blue, that I’ve chosen to use, and I’m going to make his eyeball. And there you have a goldfish which can use for a sea cake or any other type of cake you would like.

I’m going to take a small piece and then take a little bit of a bigger piece than the last one, and then another bigger one. So we’ll have three sizes. Now we’re just going to take that. We’re going to roll each piece into a ball. Set that aside. Do the same thing to the other ones. And then we’re going to roll the last one to a ball. And then we’re going to take our water, which is our glue, just so we know it’s secure, and the snowman’s not going to fall apart. We’re going to add it. I’m going to just push him together a little bit more. Add some more cornstarch so he doesn’t stick to the mat. And then I’m going to set him aside. And I’m going to take some red fondant, which is pre-made.

You can buy that in a craft store or cake store. Just knead it a little bit. Then we’re going to take some of our cornstarch, put it on our mat. And we’re going to take our rolling pin, and we’re going to roll a nice piece for his scarf. Just roll it out, not too thick, not too thin. And then we’re going to take our little scissors. We’re going to snip it a the end. Just make little snips at the end. I’m going to do it to the other end.

This is so the snowman stays warm outside in the cold. We’re going to lay it flat. We’re going to add some of our water, and we’re going to put the snowman on top. Add some water to his body so the scarf sticks. And we’re just going to take it and bring it over. I’m going to add some more water, and then we’re going to take the other end and bring it over. Transcript

Now I want to show you how to make a cute little mermaid for your sea cake. What I’m going to do is start off by making the shells that will go on her chest. So I’m just going to take a piece of yellow fondant, which is pre-made but, if you can’t find pre-made you can always make it yourself with some food coloring and some white fondant. We’re going to take a little ball size. We’re going to roll them in some cornstarch. And then I’m just going to take my finger and I’m going to press down like that.

Then I’m going to take a pointed tool and I’m going to make some little ridges so it has a little texture. And I’m going to do that to the other one, and then just set them aside. Now I’m going to take a piece of fondant for her body. This is kind of a darker beige color. I’m going to take for her body now, her torso, a nice little ball size piece, roll it in some cornstarch so that it’s not sticking to my hands. And I’m going to make it a little thin at the end and a little thicker at the top, where I will be placing her shells.

And I’m going to take that piece and I’m going to set it aside. Now I’m going to make her face, her head. And I take a piece of our beige fondant and then I’m going to roll it into a ball. And this will be her head. What you could also do is take a few pieces of paper towel and lay her head on there. I’m just going to use a piece of foam and lay her head there just so it doesn’t get too flat at the bottom. So now I’m going to make her mermaid body. I’m going to take some green, a little bit bigger than golf ball size. Roll it in our cornstarch again so it’s not too dry. And then I’m going to roll it into a ball. And then I’m going to take it and make a nice tip at the end for her little fins at the bottom. And then I’m going to take that end and I’m going to pinch it and bring it out. And I’m going to do it to the other side also. Just pinch it and take it out, like that. Then what I’m going to do is, at the top I’m going to flatten it out a little bit because this is where her torso is going to be. Just pinch the tops so that we can insert her body in there. Now, with a piping tool that has a small round circle at the top, I’m going to make some dents in her body so we can give her some more texture. Now I’m going to take her torso back. And I take some water, which is our glue, and put it on her upper body, her chest part. And I’m going to take our little shells that we made.

And I’m going to add them at the top. Now, for her head, I’m going to take a ball tool and just make some dents. And then with our water again, add her eyes, which I’m using some white pearls. I’m just going to insert them in there. And then with another pointed tool again, just make her little nose. And then you can, with an edible red marker, you can give her some nice lips. And I’m going to take some red fondant. I’m going to take a little piece. And I’m going to take some of our cornstarch, put it on my mat here. And then what I’m going to do is take my rolling pin. You can find these little rolling pins in a craft store again, or in a cake supply store. I’m going to roll it into almost an oval shape. Then her hair. What I’m going to do is take our water again, which is our glue, add it to the top.

Then I’m going to take her head and I’m going to place it right at the top. And then I’m going to take her hair and bring it up. You can style her hair as much, or as little as you want to. Now I’m going to take her body, and I’m going to take her torso. And with, like I said you can use paper towels. Just roll them up together just to make a little bed. And I’m going to place my foam, which I’ve chosen to use, under her body. And I’m going to take our water again and put it underneath her torso.

And you’re going to leave that there overnight with everything else that we’re going to attach, so that it dries nicely and it’s easy for you to handle once you place it on your cake. So now, again, I’m going to take some more of my foam and I’m going to attach her head with some water. I’m going to place it like so. How you want her placed, she can be laying down or… But I’ve chosen to place her this way. And then I’m going to take our foam piece and just lay it under her head so she’s nice and comfortable. And then I’m going to take some of our beige color that we were using at the beginning. And I’m going to make her arms. I’m going to take the color and I’m just going to roll it into a little log and then I’m going to take it and I’m going to cut it for her arms.

I’m going to make two arms obviously. And at the end of each arm, I’m going to just pinch it down a little bit. Flatten it out because that’s where her hands would be. And then I’m going to take one of the arms, and I’m going to take some of our water, which is our glue, just pick up her hair a little bit and place the arm under her hair, and place it on her body. Then I’m going to take the other arm and I’m going to add some of our water, which is our glue. And I’m going to place it a little bit under her torso. And I’m going to take more water and place it on her hand and then on her face, so it looks like she’s relaxing under the sun. And that is how you make a mermaid for your special occasion.

So I’m gonna show you how to make a cute little dinosaur.

I’ve chosen to use a purple fondant color, which you can buy premade. Or you can make a dinosaur any color you’d like. So I’m just gonna take a little bit bigger than golf ball size. So I’m just gonna take it and roll it in some of our cornstarch so it doesn’t stick to my hands. And then I’m going to make a tip at the end of his body for his tail. Just roll him and then bring it out for his tail, like that.

And then what I’m going to do is just bring the front down a little bit more so it’s a little flat in the front. And now what I’m going to do is, with my finger, I’m going to pinch. This is his little dinosaur feet and legs, like so. Then I’m going to take a tool with a nice tip a the end. Just gonna make some dents into his legs, like so. And then I’m just gonna take his body and set him aside for a second while I make his head.

I’m going to take another piece of purple fondant. I’m gonna roll it into a ball. And then I’m going to just take the ends and just pinch it up so you can make his mouth, like that. And then what I’m going to do is just pinch around that little mouth we just made. And I’m going to lay him down for a second. And then I’m going to take small pieces of purple fondant, just roll them into balls and with our water I’m gonna attach them. Put them inside as his little nostrils. Then I’m gonna take the same pointed tool, make little dents and them I’m gonna take him and just leave him off to the side.

I’m gonna take his body back and then I’m going to use a tweezer or you can use your fingers and pinch up. But I’ve chosen to use a tweezer. So I’m going to make little ridges on his back. And just pinch and bring them up. And just do that going all along the back into his tale. Just pinch and bring them up, like that. And I’m also going to do one in his head. Just pinch it and bring it up. Leave that over there.

And now I’m going to add a little color to make it a little bit more fun. I’m going to take some orange fondant, roll them into little balls and then with our glue, which is our water, just going to put it on his back and then attach those little balls. Just take them and attach them and then you can flatten them out. Can make them as big or as small as you want to. Like that. Just attach a few more to his back. Likes orange. You could use yellow or red or any other color you want. Just have fun with it. And just take a little more on the other side of his back, like so.

And them I’m also going to use these little dots and use them on his head. So I’m going to take more of our glue and at the sides, I’m just gonna attach some more, like so. And them I’m gonna do it on the other side also, like this. And you can mix up the colors too if you want. Like so.

And then I’m gonna take some white fondant and make his little eyes. Add some water. Take a little piece of white fondant, flatten it out and then put them right at the front. And then with some food coloring marker just make some dots in the middle of his eyes. And then we’re gonna take our head and we’re gonna add some water which is our glue to the back of his head and we’re gonna attach it to his body. And we’re gonna wait overnight for it to dry.

And then you have a cute little dinosaur for your cakes.

Okay. So now I’m going to show you how to make a turtle.

I’m going to take some green fondant, which you can find premade. I’m going to roll it into a ball into some of our cornstarch so it’s not too sticky to work with. And now I’m gonna make his shell.

So for his shell, I’m just gonna lay the ball down that we just made. Just flatten it out to a bit of an oval shape. So. And you just wanna make it so that it’s nice and smooth. And now what you’re gonna do is just take a tool with a nice tip at the end and you’re gonna make the lines into his back for his shell. And those you can have a little fun with if you want, and just make fun lines for your turtle. Like so.

And we’re gonna put that aside and we’re going to make his head. We’re gonna take a small amount of some green fondant, roll it in our cornstarch again. And then we’re going to make it so that it has a little bit of a tip at the end and then we’re just going to flatten that. And then we’re gonna take our tool that has the tip at the end and we’re gonna make his nice smile. So we’re just gonna go around the front of his face. Make some little dimples in there. And then what we’re going to do is take a small ball tool, make dents in his eyes. Then use some of our glue, which is our water. And then take some white pearls and place them in the dents. And I’m gonna set that aside also with our shell.

And I’m gonna take some more green fondant. We’re gonna make his little fins. And I’m gonna roll that in some cornstarch also. And I’m gonna take a little piece and I’m gonna take that piece and I’m going to make two pieces into little balls. And then I’m going to make his back little feet first. I’m gonna take some more cornstarch because it’s getting a little bit too sticky. And I’m going to, at the end, just flatten it out a little bit, like so. And I’m gonna leave those there.

Then I’m gonna make his front fins. I’m gonna take a little bigger piece than we just took and I’m gonna roll it into another ball. And then what I’m going to do is just roll it out a little bit and I’m going to make the ends a little pointy so that maybe he looks like he’s moving. And then I’m going to do the same thing to the other one. Just make it a little bit round and pointy at the end.

Now, what I’m going to do is take our shell and I’m gonna take the fins we just made and I’m gonna take our water which is our glue, and just attach them to the front. Like so. And we’re gonna do the same thing to the back, again, with our water. We’re gonna take the back legs and attach them. Just pick up your shell and move your feet wherever you want to position them in the back.

And now what we’re going to do is take our cute little turtle face. And with some blue, edible food marker, we’re gonna make his little eyeballs like so. And then we’re gonna take more of our water which is our glue, and just put it at the front and just slide his head right there.

And you’re gonna want to leave him there overnight so that he dries nicely before you put it on your cute little cake. And then what you can do is take some green, edible food marker and make nice little marks on his back. Just to give him a little more color. Make him a little more fun. And you could also, if you wanted to do whosever party this is for you can have your niece or nephew or a child make fun little marks in it with the edible food marker too. So, and you can do it on his fins and anywhere else you would like.

And that is how you make a turtle for your fun, festive party.

So now I’m going to show you how to make a dolphin.

I’m going to take some remade blue fondant. And if you can’t find it premade you can always get some white fondant and get some blue food coloring.

I’m gonna roll it into a little bigger than a golf ball size. Then ‘m gonna take it and I’m going to make a tip at the end and this will be for his dolphin fins. You can make it as long as you want. So now what I’m gonna doing at the end of the tip, just going to pinch it an then bring them out. Those will be for his fins. Then I’m going to do the same thing at the top of his body. And them I’m going to do the same thing at the sides, like so.

So now I’m going to do his mouth. Which, at the front, I’m going to just pull a little bit just so we have a nice, long mouth that dolphins have. And I’m going to flatten it just a little bit. And then with a small scissor, which you can also find at a craft store, I’m going to not cut all the way through. Just going to cut just to make a dent and then I’m going to do the same at the top of the mouth. So he has a nice little dolphin face.
I’m going to lay him down.

And I’m going to take a ball size tool for his eyes. Then I’m going to take our water, which is our glue, put them in the dents we just made. Then I’m going to take some white pearls and lay them there. And with a blue edible marker I’m going to make his eyes. And this dolphin will be really fun for a first birthday or any other kid’s birthday.

Now I’m going to take our dolphin. And just so he looks like he’s moving on the cake, I’m going to just take him and make him look like he’s jumping out of the water. Then I’m going to take a rolling pin and lay him right there so that he can dry overnight.

And then he’s ready in the morning to put on your cake or a fun birthday party or any other party.

So now I’m going to show you how to make an octopus. I’m going to take some orange fondant, which you can buy in the store, in a craft store or in a cake supply store. I’m going to take a golf size amount. So it should pretty much be the size of a golf ball. And then I’m going to roll it until it’s nice and smooth. This will be his body. And I’m going to take a ball tool and just make dents for his eyes so we know where to put them when we’re done. Then I’m going to take a tool with a nice, pointy tip, and I’m going to make his smile right in the front. Then I’m going to set that aside until we’re ready to use it again. And I’m going to take some more of our orange fondant, and I’m going to roll it again just so it’s smooth. I’m going to use some cornstarch so that it doesn’t stick to me, or it doesn’t stick to the mat. And I’m going to make his tentacles. I’m just going to roll our orange fondant into a log like so.

And then I’m going to take our cutting tool, and I’m going to cut his legs, each pretty much the same size like so. And then what I’m going to do is I’m going to take them, and I’m going to flatten out the bottoms with my finger. And I’m going to arrange them as they would be arranged on the octopus. And if you can’t find orange fondant, you can always make it and buy some food coloring that you can also find in the craft store or in a cake supply store. So I’m going to arrange them in a circle around where the body would be. Then I’m going to take our water, which is our glue, and I’m going to put them at the ends. And then I’m going to take our octopus, and I’m going to lay him on the legs. And then what I’m going to do is take the bottoms and bring them up.

And then I’m going to pinch them at the bottom so that they stay up. With your finger, with the tip of your finger, just pinch. Bring it up, and pinch, so that they look like moving tentacles. Now I’m going to take the eyes that we had previously made in the beginning. It’s white fondant. Roll them into a ball and then flatten them like so, and use them as his eyes. We’re going to use an edible marker, and I’ve chosen blue, for his eyes. Just going to do it right in the center. And then you’re all done with your octopus. And this can be used for a sea cake or any other type of cake you would like to use it on.

Now I’m going to show you how to make a shark. You’re going to take some grey fondant which you can make by buying some black fondant and some white fondant and mixing them together. Now I’m going to take our grey fondant and I’m going to roll it to a tip. The first side is going to be round and the bottom is going to be a tip, so we can make his fins.

Now for the fins, you’re just going to pinch the ends to make a V shape. Then you’re going to do the same at the top of his body, so you can make his scary fin at the top. Then you’re going to do the same at the sides. Just take some fondant and put it into a tip like so. Then what I’m going to do is take a tool, which you can find them at a craft store or a cake supply store, with the tip and I’m going to make his mouth. I’m just going to go all the way around the front of his face. Then what I’m going to do is take a small ball tool and I’m going to make dents in the front for his eyes. Then I’m going to take our water, which is our glue, and I’m going to put it into the dents. Then I’m going to take some white pearls and just drop them in the dents we just made.

Then I’m going to take a blue, edible marker and I’m going to make blue for his eyes, like so. And for these you can let them dry over night, before you put them onto your ready cake. Then what I’m going to do is use that same tool with the nice pointy tip and I’m just going to put some marks into his back and then maybe on top of his fin also.
And that’s how you make a shark for your sea cake or any other type of cake you would like.

So now I’m going to show you how to make a seagull. I’m going to take some white fondant that you can find in a cake supply store or craft store. I’m going to roll it in some cornstarch so it’s not too sticky. This is a little bit bigger than a golf ball size. And I’m going to take the ball that I’ve just made, and I’m going to pinch it at the top so that we can make his head and his beak. Just going to roll it, my fingers around it like so. And then I’m going to, at the top of his face that I just made, I’m going to pinch out a nice big seagull beak. And then I’m going to take my fingers, and I’m going to pinch the top of his head just to make a little piece of hair sticking up.

Now I’m going to take the back of the seagull, and I’m going to take and pinch so we can make some of his back feathers like so. And just pinch it up a little bit. Now at the sides I’m going to do the same thing and just pinch so we can make his little side wings. And I’m going to do the same thing to other side and then just push them back. Now at the front what I’m going to do is take my finger, and I’m just going to pinch down like so, so we can make his little feet. Now what I’m going to do is take a tool with a nice pointy tip, and I’m just going to make his little feet. And then I’m going to take the back of his little feather and just brush up so there’s a little bit more movement and texture like so. And if this is falling, you can just take anything you have around to hold it up and just leave it like that. And we’re going to do the same thing with his front feathers.

Just give it a little bit of texture. And now what I’m going to do is, with the same tool that we’ve been using, is make a nice big mouth at the front for your seagull. And now what I’m going to do is take an edible marker and just make his eyes. I’m going to make them a little bit oval size like so. And with some yellow food coloring you’re just going to have a brush in some water, and get some of your food coloring. You can take it from the cap, because we’re not going to use that much. And just roll your paintbrush in there. And we’re just going to add some color to his little feet. And then we’re also going to add some color to his back, little feathers. And then we’re going to get, I’m going to take a little bit more. And I’m going to add some color to his beak. And just take that down a little bit. I’m just going to, again, just brush the color on as his beak, and to just bring it down a little bit so we can elongate it like so. And then after you’re done brushing his beak on, you have your little seagull for your sea cake.

So today we’re going to be making a crab. I’m gonna use some premade red fondant. I’m going to roll it into a ball. You can roll it into some cornstarch, ’cause it may be sticky. Then I’m just going to flatten his back a little bit. That’s for his body. Then I’m going to take a baller and make dents for his eyes. Then I’m going to take a tool with a nice pointy tip and I’m going to make his mouth. Then I’m going to set that aside and start to make his claws. I’m gonna use more premade red fondant, roll it in some cornstarch so it’s not as sticky, then I’m going to roll it into a log, into a pretty thin log for his legs – for his claws. Then I’m going to take a cutting tool and I’m going to cut six little claws, set that aside. Then I’m going to take the end, and I’m going to just flatten it, flatten all six of them.

Then we’re going to take some water, which is going to act as our glue and we’re going to use our water just to brush it lightly on the end of his claws and arrange them as you would if he was going around his body, and just tape the crab and lay him on the legs. And you can move them around to adjust them. You can brush off the cornstarch once the crab is dry. So it’ll be fine if it stays there. And then take some more red fondant to make his front claws, two little ball-sized, and then just roll it like a tear drop, and then you’re going to flatten the ends like you did with his little legs. We’re going to take some more of our water which is our glue, and we’re gonna stick them under him in the front. And then we’ll cut his claw with our cutting tool, and open them up a little bit.

Then you’re going to take white fondant and roll them into balls for his eyes. Then you’re going to take more of your water and put them in the little dents we made in the beginning, and then you’re gonna place the white eyes in there. So now you can take an edible marker and draw his eyes on. So that’s how you make a crab. You can use this crab on a sea cake or any other cake you would like to.

Now I’m going to show you how to make a number, and I’m going to be making the number one today. And this can be used for a first birthday cake for a little boy or a little girl. I’m going to use pink for a little girl. You could use any color you’d like. You can use yellow or green or blue. So I’m just going to take a piece of pink fondant. I’m going to roll it some cornstarch and then I’m going to start to roll it into a log. And then before I start to shape the number one, I’m going to take a wooden dowel, which you can take a skewer and just cut it down. And I’m going to take our glue, which is our water, and I’m going to paint the top of the dowel just a little bit so that when we insert it into our number it’s going to stick. So we’re just going to take and just roll it into our number, not all the way through, just halfway through. And then I’m just going to start to roll it a little more.

And I’m going to take off this excess edge. And I’m going to roll it some more. Not too thin, because we don’t want the wooden dowel to show. Just roll it a little bit more. And then at the end I’m just going to roll it a little bit thinner so that we can make a nice swirl design. So I’m going to take it, I’m going to curl the end. I’m going to pinch the top. Then I’m going to take the end of it and swirl it in, and you can use a tool if you want, if you can’t get it to swirl the right way. And then just swirl it up. And then I’m going to put that to the side. And I’m going to start to make the bottom of your number one. And you’re going to want to let that dry over night, because if you pick it up now, it’s just going to fall. So we’re going to take another piece of pink fondant. I’m going do the same thing, just roll it out. And then for this we’re going to, at the ends of your pink fondant, we’re just going to make it a bit thinner than the body of it. And we’re going to take those ends, and we’re going to do the same thing that we did to the top. And we’re just going to roll it to make a little swirl at each end so it looks a little whimsical and fun.

We’re going to take that piece. We’re going to carefully pick it up, and we’re just going to bring it closer to our number one. And then when these are dry, you’re going to take your number one, and you’re going to place it into your cake. And then after, you’re going to take your end, and you’re going to place it just under your one. So you have a cute little fun number one for a first birthday cake. So if you want to do other numbers, maybe like the number eight, which is a bit trickier than the number one, what you can do is just shape your number right and then take two little toothpicks and at your rounded part of your eight just stick them in the middle. Just stick one on one end and one on the other end. Wait until they dry, and then you’re just going to prop it up on your cake. And that technique can work with any curved number.

So now I’m gonna show you how to make daisy’s. Daisy’s can be used on baby shower cakes or birthday cakes or any other type of occasion cake.

I’m going to take some yellow fondant and roll it in some corn starch and I’m going to take our rolling pin and start rolling it. Dip it in some more corn starch so it doesn’t stick to your mat. I’m just gonna roll it, not too thin and not too thick.

Once you have it rolled out you’re gonna take your daisy cutter that you can find in a craft store or a cake supply store. You’re just gonna put it on your fondant and press down and wiggle it a little so you know that it caught every edge of the leaf part and then you just want to take it, pick it up, be very careful and just set it aside.

And we’ll do another one. Again, if it stays in the cutter and doesn’t come out you could just take a small tool and just push each edge out. Then just lay it flat and then you can take some pearls with your glue, your water.

Add some water to the middle and just place your white pearl or pink pearl or yellow pearl, any type of pearl to it. And then when they’re dry or even when they’re wet you can add them to your special occasion cake.

Now I’m going to show you how to make a cute little shoe. You could use a shoe on a birthday cake, or even a graduation cake, or any type of cake for any special girl. So I’m going to take some black fondant. I’m just going to roll it into a ball and I’m going to make a nice small shoe to accent my purse on the cake.

What I’m going to do is just pinch out a little bit of the bottom and that will be our heel. Then what I’m going to do is just take my fingers and roll it around the middle of that sort of tear drop shape that we made and take some corn starch so that the shoe doesn’t end up sticking to my fingers. Then we’re going to pinch it up like this. I’m going to lay it flat and then I’m going to pinch out the front because I want a pointy heel. Just make it flat over here.

And you can make this as big or as small as you want. You can make a really big one, so it could just be the center of your cake. And after I’ve made the shape I’m going to take a balling tool with a small balled end, and just going to press it inside of my shoe where the foot would go. And after I’ve made that shape you can accent it however you want. I’m going to just put a nice white pearl at the front so we have a cute little shoe for our cake.

Now I’m going to show you how to make a purse.

You can use a purse for a birthday cake or any other type of cake you would like. So I’m going to take some little bit darker of a beige color from my fondant, roll it in some cornstarch so it doesn’t stick to my hands. Then I’m gonna start to make the shape of my bag.

So it’s kinda gonna be a hobo-type bag. So make a little bit of a triangle shape. And then I’m going to flatten down the sides and then bring the top up. So you have a nice, big bag. And now, with my cutting tool, I’m going to make a line down the sides of it and then at the top. Then I’m gonna just make some design. You can do any type of design. Just gonna do a crisscross design to both sides, like this. And then I’m gonna set that aside.

I’m gonna take some black fondant. I’m going to roll out my handle for my bag. Just roll out a little piece. Just roll it into a nice little log size. I’m just gonna set that to the side also. Then I’m gonna take another piece of black fondant, roll it into a ball. And into a kind of ovaly type shape. Then I’m going to take my rolling pin, just flatten it out a little bit. Make it a little bit wider also. Use some cornstarch if it starts to stick to your mat, like so.

Then I’m gonna take piece, gonna use our water as our glue, add it to the top and a little bit on the side of your bag. And then we’re gonna take that piece and just make it as a flap. And then take your cutting tool, just make a little dent where the purse would be opened. And then you’re gonna take your tool with the pointed tip and then just going to make two little holes at the side. I’m gonna add our water into those little holes so our handle will stay. Take our handle and place it inside.

And then you have a nice purse bag for your special occasion cake.

I’m going to show you how to make a crown. You can use this for a boy’s birthday cake. We’re going to use some yellow fondant, and I’m going to just place it in some cornstarch. Get enough on there so that it doesn’t stick to your mat. Put some on the top. Take a rolling pin, we’re just going to roll it out. You don’t want to do it too thin or too thick. If it’s too thick, it’s going to not dry in a good amount of time. If it’s too thin, it will just fall apart. I’m going to keep rolling it out and adding cornstarch so it doesn’t stick. Just keep rolling until you have it the size of the crown you would like it to be.

Now I’m going to take this piece, and I’m going to lay it flat. Smooth it out. I’m going to take an X-Acto knife, if you don’t have an X-Acto knife you can use a paring knife, just a small knife with a nice little tip, and I’m going to cut a straight line down at the bottom. Then I’m going to make the peaks at the top of my crown. You can do as many or as little as you want. Just keep making them with your knife. Then I’m just going to cut the edges so it’s straight, like that.

Now I’m just going to decorate it, going to make some some little diamond cut-outs at the top, using my X-Acto knife. If you have a small square cookie cutter you can use that. We’re just going to do a few more. Like I said, you can design this however you want. If you’re not comfortable with making the actual crown shape yourself by hand, you can draw it on a piece of paper, cut it out, and use it as a template. So I’m going to use that. Then I’m going to take a piece of yellow fondant. I’m just going to pick this up and move it over. I’m going to roll it out and make some more little diamond shapes with the piece that I’m rolling out. Going to take my X-Acto again, and make some more diamond shapes.

I’m going to take that and I’m going to use our glue, and just add it to the bottom. You can add it to each side. I’m going to make another one. Just cut a nice diamond shape. Take that shape. I’m going to add it at the end, right there. I’m going to make three more for the middle of it, like so. Then I’m going to add some more water as a glue, just down the center. Just add it right there. Like I said, you can do any type of shape or design that you want. Just make that shape. Add it to the center. Then I’m going to make one last one, and add it to the bottom with some water as my glue. So we’re going to use that there.

Then I’m going to take some pearls, and I’m going to dress up my crown so it looks like it has some diamonds on it. Just going to add a few in the middle of the little diamonds I just made. Going to use blue. You can use any color you want. They have silver, gold, white, pink, any colors. Just add it there, and going to add a few more down the sides, right here. Just play with it. Dress it up as much or as little as you want.

To make the actual rounded shape of the crown, you can use a piece of paper towel roll. You’re going to place it down. If you feel like it’s going to move too much, you can use whatever you have around to secure it, and make sure it doesn’t move. Then I’m going to pick up my piece. Don’t worry about ripping it or anything like that. It should be fine to pick up. Just pick it up, and you’re going to add it to your roll. You’re going to leave it there to dry overnight. When you wake up in the morning, you can decorate your nice prince cake with your prince crown.
