How to Make a Fondant Seagull for a Beach Theme Cake

Transcript

So now I’m going to show you how to make a seagull. I’m going to take some white fondant that you can find in a cake supply store or craft store. I’m going to roll it in some cornstarch so it’s not too sticky. This is a little bit bigger than a golf ball size. And I’m going to take the ball that I’ve just made, and I’m going to pinch it at the top so that we can make his head and his beak. Just going to roll it, my fingers around it like so. And then I’m going to, at the top of his face that I just made, I’m going to pinch out a nice big seagull beak. And then I’m going to take my fingers, and I’m going to pinch the top of his head just to make a little piece of hair sticking up.

Now I’m going to take the back of the seagull, and I’m going to take and pinch so we can make some of his back feathers like so. And just pinch it up a little bit. Now at the sides I’m going to do the same thing and just pinch so we can make his little side wings. And I’m going to do the same thing to other side and then just push them back. Now at the front what I’m going to do is take my finger, and I’m just going to pinch down like so, so we can make his little feet. Now what I’m going to do is take a tool with a nice pointy tip, and I’m just going to make his little feet. And then I’m going to take the back of his little feather and just brush up so there’s a little bit more movement and texture like so. And if this is falling, you can just take anything you have around to hold it up and just leave it like that. And we’re going to do the same thing with his front feathers.

Just give it a little bit of texture. And now what I’m going to do is, with the same tool that we’ve been using, is make a nice big mouth at the front for your seagull. And now what I’m going to do is take an edible marker and just make his eyes. I’m going to make them a little bit oval size like so. And with some yellow food coloring you’re just going to have a brush in some water, and get some of your food coloring. You can take it from the cap, because we’re not going to use that much. And just roll your paintbrush in there. And we’re just going to add some color to his little feet. And then we’re also going to add some color to his back, little feathers. And then we’re going to get, I’m going to take a little bit more. And I’m going to add some color to his beak. And just take that down a little bit. I’m just going to, again, just brush the color on as his beak, and to just bring it down a little bit so we can elongate it like so. And then after you’re done brushing his beak on, you have your little seagull for your sea cake.
