How to Do the Exchange Flair Bartending Move

Transcript

Hi. I’m Chris Cardone. I’m the Northeast United States representative of the Flair Bartenders’ Association and I’m going to show you how to do an exchange which is where you take two different objects and you switch hands in air. So this is essentially the beginning of juggling. If you can do this, you’re adding a third bottle and now you’re juggling. So anybody out there that wants to learn how to flair bartend in a juggling sense needs to learn this first.

This is the primary move. So we’ll start with one bottle. The concept of exchange is you’re taking a bottle and you’re flipping it with two rotations to your other hand. Then you’re going to add a second bottle and do the exact same move except you’re going to throw one and at the apex you’re going to throw the other one on the inside tract and underneath. So it looks like this on the release. So this one’s coming up, it’s coming down, and this one comes up at the same point. So one bottle looks like this. Two bottles looks like this. You’re going to throw the first one up and as it comes down it hits its apex, the second one goes in the inside tract and that’s how you do an exchange.

Now you need to be able to do it both ways. So you need to be able to take your right hand and throw it first and then your left hand and throw that first. But nothing changes. When this one comes up and hits its apex, the second one goes on the inside tract, when you throw your left hand the right one goes on the inside tract. And that is how we do an exchange. Back and forth. Over and over. And that is how we do an exchange.
