How to Disassemble an M4 .223

Transcript

Today we’re going to talk about how to disassemble the M-4 Assault Rifle.

This is the M-4 Assault Rifle. It’s going to be the same dis-assembly as any AR-15. They’re all going to be the same.

The first thing you want to do is you want to make sure this gun is safe and empty. So you want to drop the magazine out. Pull the action back and you’re going to make sure visually that there’s nothing in there.

Once you know the gun’s empty, the first thing you’re going to do is separate the upper and lower receivers. What I like to use if you don’t have a tool handy, you can just take a bullet from the gun. There’s two pins on either side of the gun here, one front, one back. You want to push it out a little bit with a bullet or with any kind of tool that you have handy and pop the pip out. Once that pin’s out, the upper and lower receivers will come apart.

Now, if you just want to do a basic maintenance and cleaning, you just leave it like this. If you want to separate them completely, do the same thing with the other pin. Pull the pin out. Now you have your upper receiver and your lower.

To take this gun apart further, you want to remove the bolt carrier. On the handle here there’s a little lever. You’re going to pull it out and the whole assembly’s going to come out together. Both of them. As you get all the way out, you can remove your bolt. Your firing pin’s in here and then your handle’s here.

There’s no further dis-assembly required on this gun unless you’re getting further into gunsmithing, if you have a real problem. But that’s a licensed gunsmith that’s going to handle that.

Also, on your bolt, you can take the firing pin out of here and take this out but once again, unless you’re a licensed gunsmith or you have a lot of knowledge of this gun, you’re not going to be doing that.

That is how to disassemble the M-4 Assault Rifle.
